Four Tips To Winning $10,000 In A Weight Loss Competition
Past Life Time Training 90-Day Challengesm winners offer advice as Fall Challenge kicks off, Challenge includes both male and female Weight Loss and Transformation categories
"During the Challenge, I came to realize that life will always keep throwing me curveballs, and I just need to stay focused on not letting them knock me down. The power of inner strength and realizing the healthy habits you’re establishing will take you a long way."

CHANHASSEN, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Summer may be winding down but that doesn’t mean it’s time to pack away the motivation toward achieving your fitness goals. To keep the incentive going for tens of thousands of individuals across the country, Life Time –The Healthy Way of Life Company (NYSE:LTM), announced the kickoff of its Fall Life Time Training 90-Day Challenge. More than $100,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to national and club winners in the male and female Weight Loss and Transformation categories in the fall competition, which kicks off with Weigh-In Weekend August 2-4 and runs through November 1.

Anika Christ, registered dietitian and program manager of the 90-Day Challenge for Life Time says those who succeed in losing the most weight or achieve the biggest transformation take their efforts further in order to win these types of competitions. “Our past 90-Day winners have some of the best insights to offer others. By adopting four key strategies, people can improve their personal results in healthy competitions such as the 90-Day Challenge, or a smaller challenge among friends or co-workers.”

  1. Keep “healthy competition” healthy – Dan B. lost an astonishing 130.3 pounds to take home the men’s top prize in the Spring 2014 Weight Loss Challenge but learned the hard way to keep the competition healthy. “I finished in the top five a few years ago but my goal merely was to win. I didn’t make a change in my lifestyle, and as a result gained every pound back and more.” He says this time around he made two goals; the first to win but the second—and even more important—to work toward making lasting change in his lifestyle after the competition was over.
  2. Find Support – Luke B., male winner of the Spring 2014 Transformation Challenge with a change in 74.3 percent in body fat, says finding support at home and where you work out is fundamental to success. “My family at home and at Life Time was 100 percent behind me from the get go,” he says. Luke also found support through a variety of “Try-It Tuesday” events hosted by Life Time that allowed him to try new classes and workouts, and also lean on others when it came to re-educating himself on nutrition.
  3. Mix it up – Sheridan L., who lost 69.9 pounds to claim the top female prize in the Spring 2014 Weight Loss Challenge says that after hitting plateaus in her journey, she made a big change to her routine. “My trainer told me what my daughter and others had been telling me for weeks, I needed to vary my plan,” she says. Sheridan added hand weights while walking, started swimming, found different machines to work different muscles and changed up her initial diet to add more protein. It worked and Lamp says, “The Challenge has changed my life.”
  4. The power is within – Tanette S., who reduced her body fat by 46.2 percent and to become the national female winner of the Spring 2014 Transformation Category, shares that real change begins with the power of your own thoughts. During the competition, Tanette faced injuries, the loss of a few close friends and family members and other stresses that come into play as a wife, mom, business owner and woman. “During the Challenge, I came to realize that life will always keep throwing me curveballs, and I just need to stay focused on not letting them knock me down. The power of inner strength and realizing the healthy habits you’re establishing will take you a long way.”

More than 25,000 people are expected to participate in the Fall Life Time Training 90-Day Challenge. All participants will receive complimentary access to weekly “Try-It Tuesday” events at participating Life Time locations, including grocery store tours, a variety of seminars on nutrition, exercise and technology topics, and fitness classes and events all designed to ensure success. Participants will also receive exercise and diet guidance from a Life Time Personal Trainer or Nutrition Coach, a comprehensive nutrition e-Book, web-enabled support tools via myLT.com, and access to an online leader board.
